I’m a senior researcher at Phonos, a pioneering centre in the field of music technology research associated with the Music Technology Group of Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona. There I lead the Freesound project and all Freesound-related research and development.
As a researcher, I'm working on the fields of machine listening and music information retreival. I'm interested in understanding how to conceptualize and describe large sound collections so that these become more useful in creative and scientific contexts. I’m interested in audio processing, audio metadata and machine learning for the semantic characterization of sound collections, and on applications such as acoustic monitoring. I’m also interested in exploratory audio interfaces and creativity-support tools for making sounds from such large collections... and much more! If you want to know more, check my academic publications (many of them related to Freesound).
I'm also a musician, I play the bass guitar in some bands, and make noise with synthesizers (and also program my own). Occasionally I make field recordings for uploading to Freesound, but I don't do it as often as I should. I have a son and I uploaded some of his early noises here.
