Test your hearing range! A series of pure sinewave test tones covering the audio spectrum from 20 Hz to 22 KHz, each preceded by a vocal announcement giving the frequency of the following tone. Tones created in Cool Edit Pro. PLEASE:- 1) Download the file, don't try the test using the Freesound preview. 2) You need a decent quality sound card/interface or you may well be hearing false sub-harmonics at the top end of the test.

The frequency you hear from CRT televisions
is 15625 Hz, so it's easily audible for majority of people.

I'm 25 and I can hear the tones all the way up to 22khz, though @ 21 and 22khz it sounds more like a rapidly oscillating buzz than a constant tone like it does at > 20hz. Does anyone know what frequency the sound typically made by CRT televisions is? The whine from them drives me insane.

Yes, I do agree that I should have put it up as WAV or FLAC. Never-the-less, I only hear sub-harmonics on a cheap sound card. On a quality sound interface, there's nothing heard above my normal hearing limit. So I still think it's a valid test of your sound interface and hearing ability.

I can hear up to 16kHz perfectly. Above this frequency i hear somthing up to 21kHz which seems to be lower harmonics to the base frequency. In my opinion a test like this would be better in an uncompressed format.

Sharky: I would say that is probably due to an imperfect sound card / interface. I found the same until I used a much better i/f.
