And what happens when a sound file is processed in an image processing program?
Well... mostly bad things.
But managed to obtain two barely useable results:

I want to believe.

@AlienXXX: I've heard people on SoundCloud who could easily redefine your concept of barely usable grin

Here are a few variations for the LuckyLittleDrumkit:

Open Hi-Hat - http://www.freesound.org/people/copyc4t/sounds/223649/

Inspirational you guys! The physics of of data-mathematics-sound. Energy and it's different manifestations. It's like intangible logic equals intangible energy to us mere mortals. I often wonder how my computer (with my help) can produce these sounds that can destroy my energy (raw data) or touch my soul and make it weep with both joy and sorrow at the same time (an aweseome synthesiser paulstreched)
yeah . . .

Well... copyc4t has beaten me when it comes to creating snare sounds from image-to-sound files.
I am hoping I get the best tom drums smile

@AlienXXX: Awesome job with that... Major Tom rework smile
I was actually not fond of my first quick tom attempts, and you filled the gap nicely smile

...and while we're on toms, here's a different set, from the sample I had used for the snare:

I don't know if this counts as an "unusual sound creation technique" read description to see what you think. It's just that the outcome -snare from voice- seemed unusual to me. And I noticed the tom sound contributions here which are great, so here's a few snare type sounds to go with them. If someone finds them useful enough to isolate them, that'd be great.

This is probably the least processed one.

http://www.freesound.org/people/toiletrolltube/sounds/223833/

P.S. What's going on with the links at the moment?

Edit: Fixed. I had to copy the html from Copyc4t's post to make it work, 'cause I have little clue about that stuff.

@toiletrolltube: Whoah, the serendipitous snare in that remix is awesome!
As for the links, I've edited a few older posts of mine with the same issue, and now the links look and work fine.

Well, thanks for doing that, I'd have been clueless otherwise. Oh, and by the way, I love that user name of yours smile

Yeah, and isn't serendipity great? smile

And just to self promote; this is my favourite one. Loops nicely, just needs a better bass smile

http://www.freesound.org/people/toiletrolltube/sounds/223831/

Now I must stop posting this evening, the alcohol is kicking in. Good night everyone, and happy processing.

You're welcome! Thank you for appreciating my nickname, but yours is way more original! smile

Absolutely! My longest piece, Event Horizon, was born like that smile

A dare implies thrill, right?
So, here's a spooky ambience that will help the Darers feel more and more daring:
http://www.freesound.org/people/copyc4t/sounds/223972/

It comes from the first part of this sound,
http://www.freesound.org/people/luckylittleraven/sounds/223071/
simply played a few octaves down and low-passed (it can be low-passed even more for even darker tones). The excerpt has been copied, inverted and appended to create the seamless loop.
Sorry, no 120bpm this time, no beats at all, but it's still a child of this Dare smile

Damn, "page not found." I'm intrigued! Is it awaiting moderation?

Yes sorry, it's still in moderation queue as I posted right after uploading it, my bad for not specifying it smile
I have a theory (ok, ok, it's quite X-Fileish! grin ) about the links, I edited my post after noticing your correct quote, and in fact it worked; my previous editing attempts had failed. It seems to be time based, probably a side effect of some anti-spam measures as, before uploading this sound, there were some spam messages that were then removed.

On a side note: your avatar image here seems sonification-friendly!

It seems your theory makes sense. Although, internal links should probably be excluded. But what is "X-Fileish"? That's a new one to me. Excuse my ignorance.

As for the avatar. Feel free. Here it is: http://secure.flickr.com/photos/toiletrolltube/13334961964/ It's a screen shot of some past waveform viewed in Cool Edit's phase analysis.

I just made up "X-Fileish" so no ignorance there smile I was joking about my theory resembling what conspiracy-obsessed poeple could think, and threw in X Files as a reference smile
Thank you very much for the picture, I'll see, or rather, hear what it leads to!

Bugger, that reference went right over my head.

I do not have Cool Edit, so I cannot do this myself. Suggest it here in case someone wants to try this.
1) Take a snapshot of a sound viewed in the Cool Edit phase analysis.
2) convert the image to sound using Audiopaint or a similar program
3) View that sound in Cool Edit phase analyser...

And you can keep repeating steps 1,2,3 and generating new sounds at each iteration. wink

I want to believe.

Funny, I hadn't thought of doing that, will give that a go at some point. Which reminds me, if you haven't noticed this series of images on my Flickr page http://secure.flickr.com/photos/toiletrolltube/10378149195/ Personally I think, that's just the weirdest wave spectrum I've ever seen. They're screen shots of windows files loaded as raw data in Cool Edit and viewed in Spectral View. The only clue to their origin is the file name "mnebug18b" & "wupdmgr" probably long obsolete drivers or software. Don't know how the heck I even got those colours, it's possible that I photo shopped them using invert or curves, I can't remember. I've got the sounds but they look nothing like that at all. I should/probably will upload them soon. Anyway, feel free to use the images.

P.S Just noticed that I'm posting on the wrong thread. This should probably be on the discussion thread as it's not a sound creation. I'll post this sort of stuff there in future.
