Since I was walking in the Riaza River Gorges I saw a lot of ants on the remains of an animal. I put over a pair of contact mics trying not to disturb to the ants. Maybe the sound you can hear in this audio is produced by the ants eating or the .

Hi Manuel,

Thank you very much for sharing this asset!

I have used 3 seconds of your Ants (Riaza) sound in the creation of a short game about a monarch butterfly migrating south for the winter.

The game is released on itch @ https://michaelvanham.itch.io/float

As I listened to this, I couldn't help but wonder if the sounds were caused by the friction of the feet of the ants against the contact mic surface. Or can anyone say for certain that these sounds are made by the ant's bodies as a form of communication? Do they make the sound during exhaling, like most larger animals (i.e., vocalization, as opposed to, I dunno, crickets' mechanisms, etc.).

Wow, that's intense – thank you for sharing this recording, I will use it in an art project for a small festival.
