An A-10 warthog shooting live rounds from the 30mm GAU cannon. The initial, sharp sound is the bullets going supersonic and the secondary, growling sound is sound of the actual firing arriving later.
Recorded at the Hardwood Range (Volk Field ANG base, WI) during the 2011 live-fire demonstration.

This one was very close. The snaps and growl overlap here. 2000 ft sounds about right. This is a photo I took with a 200mm lens:

That's about where it would have been from me while it was firing for this recording.

This is only half the sound of a real A-10 cannon fire. It may be the mixture of the supersonic cannon shells and the GAU 8 firing - which happens when the target is at a close range. The further the time separation of the two roars the farther the distance of the A-10 firing toward the target. This sounds like a 2,000' (feet) shot. There is another recording that gives you the best sound separation. The A-10A typically fires in combat situations from 4,000 - 10,000' (feet) slant range (actual) distance - but you can shoot out to 15,000' with some hope of hitting the target.
