The ambiance of the rear deck of a house in the Central Hill neighborhood of Somerville, Massachusetts, in the Boston region.
Recorded on 2025-04-28 at about 15:50. It was a sunny, clear spring day, temperature 75F / 24C, low humidity.
Audible elements:
- birds: American Robin (Turdus migratorius), Downy Woodpecker (Dryobates pubescens), possibly House Sparrow (Passer domesticus). See my bird-identification notes for more information.
- distant traffic from the elevated I-93 highway

Recorded with a Sony PCM-D50, with mics in the 120-degree (wide) position, using a windscreen.

I've updated my sound description and profile test with more information about how I identified these. I'm using a minimum confidence level of 0.5, which returns fewer results. For example, I don't hear blue jays at #0:27 or #0:40. I love the Merlin app, though, and have been using it wherever I go, and I've been learning a lot! I find it works well in a live context.
