General information:
You wouldn't say it but this park/forest, Estate ‘De Pettelaar’, is about 1 km away from the A2 motorway south of the city of 's-Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands. You don't hear the motorway because the wind is easterly and only a few kilometres per hour. There is also a forest between me and the motorway ( bos van de Gruyter). In that almost windless weather, the sound almost stays in place. It forms a kind of sound blanket. It must then blow locally softer than 8 kmh. And it does at this bench in the park.

In front of me is the football pitch of the “pleinse boys”. Founded in 1970. A club of football enthusiasts who never play out, but do so 48 times a year. The membership fee has been the same for 43 years. No one is ever drafted as a reserve player. They don't do summer and winter breaks. Only 4 weeks holiday break. The third half in the in the clubhouse (old green shipping container, see picture) is the most important ( https://pleinseboys.nl/ ).
Here, really, only people on bikes and the occasional walker come to enjoy the peace and quiet.

Today is a scorching hot summer evening in June it is. As I dictate this, it is 29°c. Tomorrow the wind will turn west and there will probably be thunderstorms. What I find remarkable is that there are no mosquitoes here to eat me.

History of estate .“De Pettelaar”.
The area was first mentioned in the 15th century. It mentions the monastery farms Patersberg and Mariaweide.
Around 1625, a lot of sand was excavated from the area to raise the height of the inner city of 's-Hertogenbosch. From 1748, the area was laid out as a country estate. Avenues were created and the Sterrenbos (Star Forest) near Haanwijk.
In 1860, the estate was bought by the De Gruyter family and a villa was built in 1920, presumably on the remains of the 18th-century manor house. Near the villa, which served as a summer residence, was a vegetable garden and a walnut orchard. The property, still known as the ‘Forest of De Gruyter’, was sold to the Brabants Landschap Foundation in 1995. Recently, the area became part of ‘Van Gogh National Park’, which stretches between the cities of Eindhoven, Tilburg and 's-Hertogenbosch, a 100,000-hectare area.
