Traffic in Calapan city, Philippines. (Take 1)
I made this recording from a balcony located in Calapan city (Oriental Mindoro, Philippines), right in front of Xentro Mall, at the end of the afternoon.
One can hear quite heavy traffic with lots of vehicles (cars, motorcycles, some trucks and some jeepneys) passing by and onking at times, as well as the voices of some people coming in or going out the mall.
From time to time, one can also hear men shouting to invite passengers to come in their jeepney or tricycle, as well as a bus honking (starting at #9:49), calling passengers going to Bulalacao.
At #6:45, a vehicle passes by with some loud music.
Recorded in August 2025 with a Zoom H5studio (built-in XY microphones).
Fade in/out applied in Audacity.

Ah ah ah !
If you have a bit of time, please feel free to have a look to some pictures of these jeepneys. Some of them are really beautiful ! And if a Filipino says he likes your car, I can assure you that’s indoubtedly a compliment !

Interesting stuff.
My wife has a friend who's married to a guy from the Philippines.
Really nice guy.
One time I gave him a lift, and he said he liked my car.
Now I'm not so sure it was a compliment ;-)

Thanks Colin !
You’re right, some Filipino vehicles, especially jeepneys, may have amazing engine sounds sometimes.
Actually, the first jeepneys have been hand made from some US army jeeps left in the Philippines after Second World War, extended and customized to become transportations. Currently, there are some factories, but most of the jeepneys are still built from scratch by weelders, who just buy the engines and wheels, then make and assemble all the other parts of the vehicles.
