Jurčičeva Street in Maribor is an indispensable part of the mosaic of the old commercial part. It is a mosaic of the Old Town's mosaic of shops and restaurants, which help to enliven and add colour to the Old Town. The sounds of strings, accordions and deep voices often add to the atmosphere. You can walk along Jurčičeva Street all the way to Gosposka Street and Leon Štukelj Square.
The corner of Jurčičeva Street was once the headquarters of the editorial office of the Slovene Nation newspaper, which was once home to Anton Tomšič and Josip Jurčič, the Slovene writer after whom the street was named. The oldest name of the street is Kleine Herren Gasse (Little Herren Street), which first appeared in 1648.
The building at 5 Jurčič Street was once the Pri Jelenu tavern, one of the most prestigious in old Maribor. Emperors Joseph II, Leopold II, Franz I and the Russian Tsar Alexander I and his wife even stayed there.
