Data Center Walkthrough

Ambient sounds of a medium-scale data center and the servers that inhabit it. I noticed that a group of a dozen or more servers of the same type will emit sounds of slightly different pitches, resulting in a sort of harmonization. Recorded with a Sony ECM-MS907 into a Sharp MD-MS702.

Maybe > dozen. Depends on the specs. Like how Proliant DL are lounder than other rackmounts, Irwindales active hsf oscillate with changing loads, etc. A mixed cluster might do that with 4-6. Anyway, what a nice recorder you have, real nice. You did a great job.

Sweet. That part starting from somewhere near 1:15 is really cool to listen to.

Also, it reminds me of Zen from half-life for some reason >.>

This is class. The sounds of lots of computers together can be rather eerie.
