A higher sample rate wouldn't do anything for low volume sounds. 48kHz is plenty for this.
Original recording was 24bit but then converted to 16bit on the bounce. Peak reads just under -9dBFS...so without compressing the sound, I opted to go with the more natural recording.
Originally recorded in an almost sound proof room, this wasn't something meant to be recorded as a loud item. It was for a film piece....where dynamics, subtle cues and natural room tone is key.

grannet, it's touch getting something so quiet at un-nosy mic levels. may i suggest recording at higher HZ for low volume sounds? it might help with clarity and de-noising.

it's a bit noisy, but nothing unfixable. thank you for being the closest to the sound i've been looking for. :)
