Walking one evening recently along a riverside trail, my dog picked up an over-long stick and trotted along with it in his mouth. The original sound the stick made as my dog dragged it along the ground sounded a lot like crickets. I captured the sound with my Android phone by using the Smart Voice Recorder app. I used Audacity (www.audacityteam.org) on a Linux platform to decelerate, split the channels, then add different echo and reverb values to each channel. I then took those two channels, copied them to a new stereo track, then reversed that track to give that backwards heart-beat sound in the background, which was, in the original recording, just my footfalls on the trail.
