'Nature-Symphonies'

Nature-Symphony 13 (Springtime riverside reverie) — After the challenging Nature-Symphonies 11 and 12, this is a big contrast in its lean and simple sound. I considered certain ways to elaborate it, but they all detracted from the simple beauty of this as it is — and after all, it's better to have very varied works and not always to be seeking dense and complex sound. Although the chimes here have quiescent periods, there is distant birdsong, which is not just an incidental but an intrinsic part of this Nature-Symphony, like the river itself.

The original field recording is https://freesound.org/people/Philip_Goddard/sounds/700446/ .

Chimes used (total: 3)

1. Music of the Spheres Gypsy Chimes, Mezzo and Soprano (tuned to an Eastern European Gypsy scale)

2. Woodstock Chimes of Pluto (relatively high-pitched, tuned to a pentatonic scale)

I made the original recording on 5 March 2013 beside the River Teign, just upstream from the Teign Gorge, Drewsteignton, Devon, UK.

Techie stuff:

The recorder was Sony PCM-M10, with Røde DeadKitten furry windshield (original, more effective version). It was set up on a Velbon Mini tripod.

Post-recording processing was to apply EQ in Audacity to correct for the muffling effect of the windshield — and then more recently stereo widening / sharpening-up using the VST plugin A1 Stereo Control (160% widening).

To create this Nature-Symphony from the original, I took the already extant half-speed version and used the OrilRiver VST plugin to apply a moderate back-of-cathedral acoustic.

Please remember to give this recording a rating — Thank you!
