I heard it's called the alarm clock bird. This is a great recording. Reminds me of my time in Aus last year.

I live in Upwey, Australia. There's a mob (not sure of the collective term) of Kookaburras who live in the area.
It's a wonderful sound alright but it's a shock to visitors (even those who live in Melbourne, a mere 45 minutes away) to be woken up at 5AM by what my brother described as "a gang of f*cking howler monkeys" :-)
