Recorded live at Cape Canaveral AFB, Florida. 09/07/2014 1:00AM in the media viewing area. This is as close as you can get to a live launch approx. one mile.
The mic was placed on the front seat of the news truck in order to cut out any other outside noise. You are hearing the real sound of the powerful new Space X Falcon 9 rocket with over 1.3 million pounds of thrust at lift off. Even close to launch pad 40 it takes the full sound a few second to reach the mic.
This was the launch of AsiaSat6, a high speed communications satellite that will cover a large swath of Southeast Asia for broadcasters such as Thaicom.

Thanks. It'll fit in just dandy to a podcast I'm making.

Pity it's 192kbps and .mp3, but hey, that's better than NASA's library they released, which is 128kbps .mp3. Still pretty low grade meat. Doesn't anyone in Florida have the gear to record a launch in lossless 24-bit? I know I'm a choosy beggar, but if we didn't reach for higher things we'd all still be living in caves.

Absolutely fantastic, I wish I could experience it my self!
95 percent of the youtube videos don't do that incredible sound justice, so thank you very much for recording it properly.
