I'm yet to get access so I can't tell if it generates sound effects, (and makes Freesound redundant).

AI might evolve up to a point in which simple sound effects might be generated more or less successfully, but it is light-years away from capturing the complexities and nuances of the sound domain. Also, AI only generates audio files. As you know, Freesound is much more than a collection of audio files. The community, the personal histories behind the sounds, will set it apart from everything else (it is already doing that in fact).

Freesound is never going to be redundant smile

Is freesound concerned about a "deluge" of thousands of uploads generated with AI when the whole process becomes as easy and skilless as a random bit of typing, regardless of the audio/artistic quality of the end result?

Members have a variety of attitudes when it comes to quality v quantity but it would be sad to see the "diamonds" swallowed by a tsunami of muddy water - even from just a handful of "quantity" posters.

Hi,

Yes, this is a potential issue indeed. If this becomes a problem we'll see which actions can we take to maximise visibility of sounds which are more relevant to the community. We'll probably need to have some debate in the Freesound community about how to handle AI and stuff. Fortunately, we at the MTG are experts on AI and are in a good position to face these potential problems.

Freesound's fart noises are still better than AI farts ... https://freesound.org/people/Timbre/sounds/706060/
