Currently I record directly with my Octava MK-012 to my field recorder Marentz PMD661 MKii and from the outputs of the recorder to my camera mic input for a clean sound for the porous of syncing.

The above setup works great but I am always looking into improving on the sound quality.

I have been looking into buying SD Mixpre-D but it is out of my budget now so I considered buying Azden FMX-42u until I found two good offers for either SD Mixpre or 302. They both are offered for the same price "below $600" and in excellent working condition.

So, my question is, which once should I go with? the used SD Mixpre, the 302, or a new Azden FMX-42u?

$600 for a sound devices 302 is a fair price. I use it for a year now and it is great.

The Azden (and anything from Azden at all) will not improve your sound quality.

Ok, if Azden is out, that will leave me with the mixprea d 302.

Which one should I go for? And why would I choose one over the other?
