Rode seems to produce nice mics, but also seems to have less clear philosophy.
NT5 matched pair comes with cardioid capsules. You can get omnis for them, but... not paired.
NT55 comes with both pairs matched, cardioid and omnis, and while it's being described as the same thing as nt5 in terms of capsules - specs on rode's website are slightly different between them.
Descriptional diffs:

Since the freesound search engine does not works correctly (it's not possible to find exact words, because it gives unrelated stuff), question to owners: when using the same cardioid confing on nt5 and nt55 - what are the practical differences? Self-noise levels at the same gain of a digital file? Any sound samples?
to search more decent do not search on n5 but "nt5" and "nt5 matched"
So with these " things in front and behind.
Last time when I tried to use the quotation marks (in google style) - it did not worked, but now it seems to work.
Unfortunately - no results on nt55.
BTW, nt55 is not matched pair of nt5, it's a different model. "Theoretically" it's the nt5 with paired cardioid and matched omni capsules (there is no wai to buy paired omnis for nt5 separately), but specs look different. My guess is, that nt55 in cardio setup can be slightly worse than nt5, not to mention that nt55 is 2x more expensive due to included omnis.
I use the Rode NT4 and it has the same NT45-C / interchangeable cardioid capsule as on the NT5, NT55 and NT6 microphones.
See http://www.rodemic.com/accessories/nt45-c
So maybe you can search on NT4 as well.
I am very glad with the results. Listen to my recordings. I think this is a nice example: http://freesound.org/people/klankbeeld/sounds/251252/
