nice ones, guys! woot

plagasul: I don't think your piece gets annoying, on the contrary, I like that kind of "mantra-feeling" sound going on. Very nice beat progression there. I was also tempted to use some external sounds to see how they melted alltogether... By the way, you could use ourmedia.org to host your files. That's what I do... It's free, fast and easy to use.

simondsouza: great result for just an hour of work!! I particularly like the mixing of different timbres. It's a pity the file has such a low bandwith! I'd like to hear it in a better quality. Oh, and thanks for the compliment! wink

I want mooooore!!!! tongue

Am I the only caveman who cannot load a 24 bit wav into their software??? Even my Media player gives an error... I was thinking of grabbing it off the preview but that is so lofi... I have 4 gigs left on my hard drive.... I have a great idea for this... what's the smallest application around to convert to 16 bit? Anyone know?

yep, that sounds good.

to NoiseCollector: I didn't have any problem with that file. What kind of software are you using? have you tried this?:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Don't know if it's the smallest, but I find it quite useful.

I have Audacity, hardly ever use it though... I will try "save as" and then open in Audacity and then export to 16 bit 44.1k, thanks for the tip!

I tried to open it with windows media player and got an error. I have current updates... strange.

The first PC I ever bought had Voyetra audio software package in it and I have upgraded over the years using Digital Orchestrator and it's now called Record Producer... It's old school (no plugin support) but it handles all my MIDI and digital audio recording needs for cheap... I think I spent a hundred dollars upgrading it over the last 15 years or so... It handles 16 bit only... I can run an infinite number of MIDI tracks and up to 30 digital tracks at the same time on my $300 PC no problem so it's worth it.

Thanks again... will post a song if I can!

Harri - great track - thought it was going to be the theme tune to Doctor Who and then it went off in a different (good) direction. you really got a melody out of that old printer!!

Bebop - thanks for the tip about ourmedia - I have registered and uploaded a higher bandwidth mp3 of the file (haven't changed anything else though, yet)

you can find it here

Bram - yeah I'd be up for a monthly challenge

lol! I totally agree! nice "rasping"-bass sound. great work. looks like you almost created a whole band there!

simondsouza: much better now! love that "airy-synthy-highpicthed" kind of melody.

I got that sound out of the background noise! which sounded great when amplified and pitch shifted!

When I get a chance maybe I'll do some more work on it.

Cheers

This is such a great way to get people working spontaneously and fast, it seems... Really love the "Epson Derby" and "Printer's Lament" songs, great work!

I'm sorry to report I'll finish mine a bit later... the work stagnated after I created bass and drum parts, and for the best reason in the world:

my wife-to-be gave birth to our son this monday! The finest boy in the world, he's got a mohawk and likes to wiggle his toes.
....so I'll lay low with the music-making for a while... lots to do....

of course, I did record the first screams of our baby smile

congratulations on your sons birth. So now your sleepless nights will be caused by the screaming mews rather than the creative muse.grin

Glad you liked the track.

And yes, Bram, when's the next double dare.

Also, congrats on your interview in Computer Music this month. Officially famous! When's the single coming out? And have they headhunted you for Celebrity Big Brother yet?

Heheh, it's not the first time in CM smile We used to make it to the CM pages quite often with Smartelectronix a few years back...

The issue is the new march issue, so it SHOULD be available!

CM - I get a subscription so I get it early.

Ah yes, I remember Smartelectronix..... Been getting CM since issue 1. It was so great to have a whole magazine with that title - instead of just having a few pages in SOS or Future Music.

Yeah, come on with the double dare..... smile

Cheers
