Hi,

I was looking around the internets for some audio challenges for a bit of practice and ended up with ads and scams so I thought I'd make some for myself. I haven't made anything yet but like to get creative so here's a challenge you can do for a bit of audio engineering practice. You don't have to do all five, share your creations if you want, take your time as it's practice not a competition and have fun.

Five Artificial Audio Challenges;

Create the following:

5 Alarms; emergency, alarm clock, reminder, new message and caution.
-
5 water locations; waterfall, open ocean, river, stream, beach.
-
5 kinds of transport; car, plane, boat, bike/skateboard, motorbike.
-
5 monster roars from tiny, small, medium, large to enormous.
-
5 home appliances; microwave, toaster, washing machine/dryer, vacuum and a garden tool.
-

Rules; Sounds must be artificial, no straight recordings. You must use samples and build the sounds yourself. Use only sounds downloaded from Freesound and samples recorded by you.
No time limits on finished samples (as long or short as you like), use any equipment/software you want, no deadline, no expectations (make them as simple or as complicated as you like.)
Credit/reference sounds you use where required.

e.g.
stream;
I will use a sample of a river from Freesound;
Stream River Water Up Close

with some forest sounds;
Mexico Sian Ka'an - Biosphere Soundscape Project » Forest at dawn with birds, chachalacas, crickets and insects in the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve

.. and record myself blowing in a mic for some wind, edit and mix, upload to Freesound, link, learn.

Heh heh, I guess I've already put together multiple alternative sounds that could serve those exact roles:

  • emergency:
    RedAlert_Klaxon_STTOS_recreated.wav
    or
    FmKlaxonReverberant.wav
  • alarm clock:
    NastyAlarmLoop.wav
    or
    MultiToneSawtoothMod.wav
  • reminder:
    BosunCallAttention.wav
    or
    12ChirpBurst1x.wav
  • new message:
    BirdieYuHu.wav
    or
    Bosun_Whistle_STTOS_recreated.wav
    or
    Std2ToneSawtoothMod.wav
  • caution:
    AlienBeacon1.wav
    or
    MutedPhoneAlert.wav
