Hello UPLOADERS ( yes, uploaders, not downloaders wink ),

1. are there any particular features you really miss from fs1 that we didn't put in fs2?

2. are there any USABILITY tools you could really use in the new interface.

Please do NOT post feature requests for completely new things in here, only tell me what could make your life easier right now?

Hei Bram,
1. Please bring back the latest comments link!....it's a great way to connect with sounds other ears are picking up on.
and as uploader...
2.A bit of compacting...A new sound is only easy to find as long as it remains one of the five most recently uploaded sounds, but by compacting(on the front page)"latest news" to same type-size as "Active forum threads" and moving this over/under Freesound projects will free up space for five more recent uploads.
.....similar thing on the Sounds page, the 5 "most downloaded sounds" basically never changes....compacting these as links would allow 10 (there's more variation in 5-10)....and moving this under/over "most downloaded packs" would free up space for at least 5 more latest sounds.
aah ok?.... thanks for asking!

I miss the ftp upload option, but only if it's as stable as it used to be wink.

Oh yeah, and without the 15 minute timelimit (or is it me remembering something that never were?).

...and i agree with Juskiddink!

Hi Bram,

well, there are a few things about the FS1, I liked better. At the mo. I feel, that the attention span of an uploaded sound is pretty brisk on the first day and then they disappear into the nirvana. The uploads in the last 48 hours bit on FS1 was better.

I feel that there is too much emphasis on "packs" and on "most downloaded sounds", as they most downloaded don´t seem to alter much.

I also agree, what my fellow freesounders wrote

When describing sounds, I liked to be able to see the whole batch of fields to fill - tags, description - spread in front of me (now I see one at a time, as the list of sounds is collapsed by default). May seem unimportant, but the old system allowed to work faster by copying/pasting, whereas now one has to spread/collapse/copy/paste, which takes many more clicks to finish the job

I also miss the 'uploaded during last 48 hours list' and the 'latest comments' thingy. Gave the site a lot of dynamicity, so to say

Of my top of my head:

1. All comments on one page. Switching page while listening stops playback.

2. Grammer check. That was kinda handy.

3. 10 stars voting.

Persistent login. So I don't have to log in every time.

joedeshon,

the login IS persistent. If it isn't for you something is wrong: make sure your browser is accepting cookies and not deleting them when you quit your browser.

Hi Bram,

I have the same login thing. The login persists for the day, but not from one day to the next. I have not changed any of my Firefox cookie options since FS1.

My sessionid is set (by freesound, not overridden locally) to expire same day.

hello all,

our sessions are set to expire in 2 weeks, not one day...
try clearing your cookies guys. the fs1 cookies are completely different from the fs2 ones, maybe they are interfering?

Hmmmm...
Well, FS1 was sure persistent. But my logon with FS2 only seems to last a few hours.

I was on it this morning. Didn't sign off. Came home from work this evening. Had to sign on again.

I can't figure out which cookies are FreeSound's. I don't want to delete ALL my cookies; I like some of them.

I'm using a pretty generic version of IE9.

It's not a big deal; I'm not going to make a stink out of it. It's just that I don't have persistence issues with any other web site. And I never did with FreeSound until now.

Anybody else with any thoughts? Cookie-thoughts or otherwise?

I miss contributors rating by downloads. It was funny to know how much people need your sounds smile Other things are really enhanced and look professional. My admiration to all the team!

I've turned some of these into tickets, at least the big ones...

We obviously still have a lot of work cut out for us (deleting sounds by users being the first!) so it will all take a while wink

We really appreciate the work. The new site looks slick and polished. In a volunteer project like this, we'll take the lumps while things are being worked out.

Hi Bram,

I had previously cleared all my freesound cookies already. (Got used to doing this in FS1 because some days firefox failed to load freesound1 pages at all.)

Previous "sessionid" cookies had expiry date same day, but yesterday's had the two weeks you mention. Never-the-less I still had to log in again this morning. Is there a different named cookie that controls persistent log-in? I don't have the knowledge to check if your server is actually reading the cookies on my computer, but there appear to be other possible cookie related problems, like the read/un-read forums icons don't persist, and all messages within forums are marked read whether I've read them or not. (On one occasion a few weeks ago I had one single message that was flagged un-read, but that is all.)

Using Firefox 3.6.23. with Adblock +, set-up not changed since last days of freesound1.

It's not a major issue for me, but I hope the feedback helps.

Wibby.

Hi,

We should take this conversation elsewhere... could you pls start another thread about this?

The "unread forums" thing has nothing to do with this though... we just failed making a good algorithm for correct "unread posts" flags. That's a TODO!

Thanks for the info Bram.

Other than saying the read/un-read forum thing is more useful to me than the log-in thing, I don't feel either is a big priority. I was just giving feedback.
