Ever since the new UI was forced upon us (not that I necessarily mind it) I found that searching for sounds will yield more results and more sounds that have nothing to do with what I searched for. Has anyone else experienced this?

Helpful on other place at the forum is this

Multiple search terms may be used and should be separated by spaces.
Use +term1 if term1 MUST be present.
Use -term2 if term2 Must NOT be present.
"Terms that include a space" must be enclosed in quotes.

Hi,

The search engine has not been changed with the new UI. There might have been changes that happened while updating versions of the software (we're regularly doing this although it should rarely have an effect on actual results), but those would affect both UIs. Nevertheless we have not released any search engine update together with the new UI, IIRC I think las engine updates were before summer.

hello Frederic,

Searching the database has indeed changed. Maybe not caused by you, but it has become really hopeless if you don't know to use + and -. And that was not in the past.

I have described an example were I have an example and please please take it searesly. There is a problem for a long time now.

=+=+=+=

How does it work; searching

For example; You are looking for a sound recorded at the river Schelde and uploaded by user klankbeeld.

You search on: klankbeeld river schelde

Than you get about 9.000 hits
That is far to much. This because all sounds with one of these words are listed there.

What to do.

Search: +klankbeeld +river +schelde

Now you get only 94 results

When you do not like the tracks with ship horn in it and the word horn is in the text.

Search +klankbeeld +river +schelde -horn

Now you get only 56 results. The horns are gone.

When you play also the advanced search options it will be more better

Just play with it.
Happy searching........

Hi,

I thought this had been addressed some time ago, but I don’t remember exactly. We’ll look into it. In any case the change is not related to new UI and it was also affecting the old UI.

Hi, the bad search behaviour you were describing should have been fixed now. Also we run a major update of the search engine backend which might imply some variations on the search results, but nothing too noticeable.
