I spliced, cut, and edited together various car engine recordings (particularly Maserati), a female scream pitched way down, and an elephant pitched and slowed. Thanks to my friend the GreenDragon for a careful ear and helpful tips.

"I caught myself standing, though my legs were so cold I could not feel them, and my wings were so broken I could not lift them. I screeched toward the canopy at the gods, and suddenly, to my shock, out came a great roar. All the legion of Eithra's predators blended behind my voice and lent it power to carve out grooves in the ice. Heaving to recover my lungs, I scanned over the aftermath of the shockwave. A pillar in the far distance came down, blocking the river. I looked upon my wake in despair. Eithra seemed to me in that moment a farce, like an imitation of a masterwork made in jest to entertain the gods, and I despaired that I might ever have a large enough soul to forgive them and laugh."
