This bird sang outside my kitchen window every morning this spring at Lake Atitlan in Guatemala.A rather plain brownish bird, about the size of a bluejay, and darker on top than underneath with no discernable markings. I don't know what kind he is.

soundhog, the song you have recorded is the Costa Rican National Bird song, its called "yigüirro". Reference: "El Yigüirro: (Turdus grayi) fue declarada ave nacional desde el 3 de enero de 1977, como un tributo a su canto potente y melodioso que acompaña la entrada de la época lluviosa."
You can see the bird singing in this video:

In the following video the bird is making its nest:

Geotagged!
Thanks for your comments. Here is a picture of the bird:

I recorded this wav on a Microtrack and used Audacity to reduce noise (two light passes) and boost volume - both across the board with no selective editing. Sounds pretty much as I heard it. I must have tried 10 mornings before getting a good clean sound; after a few minutes of this, all the other birds were awake.

This sounds like a curved bill thrasher, a brown bird about the size you describe. Did it have a bill that hooked down at the end? And yellow eyes? It sounds louder than the thrasher usually sings, which sometimes sounds like it is singing under its breath, so to speak. Probably a tropical relative.
Good capture, excellent quality.
