This is a short sample of what dial tone used to sound like before the days of tone dialing. It is derived from a Perl script I wrote to synthesize the tone. The primary tone is 600 Hz modulated by 120 Hz, what was called "low tone" by Western Electric and others. This dialtone was heard on older electromechanical switching gear like step-by-step, panel, No. 1 crossbar and No. 5 crossbar.
If you need more sample, this probably can be looped.
