Recorded after midnight from the edge of a lowland forest bordering Puerto Princesa Subterranean National Park, where we stayed at the Bambua Nature Park Resort in Sabang, Palawan, Philippines. In addition to the sounds of various forest and bush crickets, the "growl" or "snore" of an endemic Palawan Scops Owl can be heard from the forest at 4 - 5 second intervals during the first several minutes of the recording, until it is drowned out by a chorus of Philippine Toads that are much closer in a large wet clearing. When the toads quite down, the owl can be heard again near the end of the recording. You can also hear the pounding of the surf at high tide, from the South China Sea, around a kilometer away. The equipment used was a Sennheiser MKE-300 mic, with an Edirol R-09 recorder.
