After the death of Leon the murderous Replicant in Blade Runner, his circuits were examined for malfunction. A fusing of synapses in his virtual cortex was discovered. Using the Corporation's diagnostic equipment it was established that this sound would have been constantly in Leon's ears - a form of Replicant tinnitus which could explain his aberrant behaviour
