I wanted to create spaceship’s blasts and it was difficult to create something everyone would immediately recognize. I only used Audacity and created that sound from scratch. Therefore I used a lot of effects to create noises that I squeezed again and again until it sounds good enough. At the very beginning I generated a sawtooth chirp (1200Hz - 50Hz ; 0.7 - 0.7) of 2s. I duplicated it, moved it around and merged both tracks, it gave me a more saturated and crispy noise. I used the phaser effect (2 stages, dry/wet : 200, LFO Hz : 0.7, LFO deg : 0, Depth :70). I created a white noise (0.8) of 2s with a fade in and a fade out. I created my blasting sound with those both tracks. I used the distortion a lot, played with the deeps to create the “deflagration” effect. I wanted a kind of soft “loading” and mechanical thing to announce the blast, as if the ship gathered power in its weapons before shooting it through space. Once I obtained the loading sound and the blasting explosion, I reduced the loading sounds and duplicate three times the blasting to imitate three shots. I reduced a bit the speed of the last one and used a fade out, as if less power were left in the ship.
