Loud treble-heavy thunder crack and short thunder roll.
These are high-quality copies of Hollywood original optical and mag effects from the 1930s through the '60s, transferred to full-track tape by USC Cinema. I have digitized them for preservation, but they have not all been restored and may have some noise.

Apparently, Optial Media International (OMI) also sourced from a recording very much like this for their 1986 "Universe of Sounds" sampler set for E-MU's Emulator II, specifically the sounds "Rain & Boomer 04" and "Movie Thunder 02".

This is a true classic, it's what many people think of when you say "thunder". Thanks.

Yep, the "Castle Thunder" sound effect that Universal and later Hanna-Barbera would often use.
