This is the sound of a Maha MH-C9000 (Powerex WizardOne ) battery charger amplified. It is the sound of the internal transformer pulsing to charge some AA NiMH batteries. Recording chain: Rode NT4 (stereo mic) – Sound Devices Mix Pre (Pre amp) – Edirol R-09 digital recorder (24 bit 44.1 khz > 16 bit post).

So I'm NOT the only one who can hear sounds from purely electronic devices that don't have speakers. Thanks for pointing this out.
