I have been wanting to build an original explosion for a while. Finally did. I went through my library to find sounds I have recorded over the years to see what I could use. Here is what I found to use:
Metal Groan
Radio Static (for the alarm buzzer)
Hydraulic Car Shop Lift (for explosion punch)
Ticking Clock
Wood Desk Being Broken apart (debris)
Sprinkler Spray hitting Metal Pole (for explosion depth)
Wind Blare from Mic (for echo)
Fire Twirling
Three Different Firework Explosions
I edited all sounds together in Reaper. Added EQ, Reverbs, Pitch, and some Distortion changes to most tracks to add more umph to the final result.
I left a second gap between the ticking and explosion in case anyone only wants one or the other.
Plus if you want and sounds removed or singled out for your own projects just message me and I can make a custom sdfx for you.
Enjoy. JB.
