@t-willa: This sample is velocity layer (vl) 1, roughly pianissimo. For more volume, use the vl4 sample:

The VSCO 2 project instruments are multi-sampled, meaning each instrument has multiple velocity layers (vl) and often multiple repetitions/round robins (RR). The real relative levels of the samples are preserved, so that soft hits can be mapped to respond to key velocity and seem naturally quieter.
