The very unique call of the Cuckoo recording on May 23rd, 2015 in southern Illinois. This "singing" sounds like nothing else in the forest. They are not very common in this part of the country, so, I am very very fortunate to have captured this primal call on " tape ".
Equipment used: Marantz PMD661, with Stereo Samson CO-2 microphones mounted on a tripod about 4 feet from the ground. I was set up on a trail on the edge of a large forested area which eventually leads down to a huge lake. Recorded around 6:30PM on a mild evening--partly cloudy and temp was 74 degrees.
