Manado, North Sulawesi, Indonesia

Field-recording of a street Jathilan trance ceremony, made in Manado, Sulawesi (Celebes), Indonesia. Broken glass is chewed, bloody self-inflicted cuts are made with a razor and some guy is put into a trance by an MC (dalang) who is all parts magician/charlatan/holy man.
