Carnival Oeteldonk Netherlands pack 1

The end of a three day carnival-play. The last part of the play is 'de begrafenis van Knillis' (the Funeral of Knillis). Can you see him on his statue?
Oeteldonk carnaval 04
One carnival symbol in the 'Oeteldonk play' in the 's-Hertogenbosch is the statue of 'Boer Knillis' (farmer Knillis), the founder of Oeteldonk. Knillis is exposed on Sunday afternoon and taken down on Shrove (Tuesday night at 23.55) all done by the prinse. It point the beginning and ending of the play. In addition Knillis wife Hendrien is there also leap-year.

What you hear
The last people in the pub / café. There is no music playing because everyone has to go to the funeral of Farmer Knillis at the market square down-town , the ending of the carnival in 10 minutes. These people only have to walk for 2 minutes. When you come here you hear multiple bands playing (all band or musicians that are able to play) local carnivals repertoire. After 3.45 minutes the band left plays the famous church song 'U zij de Glorie' (Thine be the Glory, by Händel). This because this city is Catholic and carnival is adopted by the church here.
Thousands of people are there having a great final of three carnival days. The hardly can stand, and that's not because of the alcohol, but it's hard to get up early and sleep late for three days.
This last part feels as a real funeral because we have to wait an other year and we're so tired. People really cry, no I'm not joking. Some sing 'weet je waarom ik huil' (do you know why I'm crying).
After 11 minutes he comes from his statue. People sing and dance and cry..... an other song the people sing is 'tranen in mijn ogen' (tears in my eyes). It's a final between tears and laughter.
The last yell caused by the prince who drops small papers with the new theme for next year from high above. The 2014 theme is: 'Oeteldonk laot oe zweve' (Oeteldonk lets you fly). Inspire me!!

Lets walk home now and start thinking what to do next year with the new theme.
