I recently bought a 'mute synth'.

Calling it a synth is a bit over the top. I would call it a noisemaker.
Due to the way this thing is 'controlled' sounds are unpredictable and hardly ever reproducible. Best to just play with it and record, and then cut the good bits.
The mute synth contains 2 oscilators. The user's hands (preferably with wet or moist fingers) act as bridges between points in the circuit. In certain positions it is possible to get the oscilators to modulate each other, as well as a variety of other effects which all are difficult to control and impossible to replicate! :-)
