No, I did not feel insulted. :)
With this sample, I can imagine myself sitting in a coffee shop or a restaurant with heavy rain outside, but there are so many windows and no one's opened the door for half an hour due to which the rain and thunder and the wind is a bit muffled. Later on, the guy walks either outside or to a place where the rain's noise is able to get to the surrounding where the guy is standing so it's more sharp and less muddled. Just my interpretation!
