Monthly tornado siren test in a forest preserve in Streamwood, IL.
Identified as an American Signal T-135 or Penetrator-50 thanks to knowledgeable commenter @theblockofsound235.
Recorded with a Shure VP88 into a portable Denon CF recorder on January 5th, 2010.
The occasional bird and some distant traffic and planes are audible. The amount of echo and the other distant sirens are helped by this being a winter recording - there were no leaves to obscure reflections.
My standout memory of making this recording is, after the siren had finished and I'd packed up my gear, I stood up and turned around to find eight or ten deer stood a few paces away in a semicircle, watching me curiously. I'd been sitting there for probably 10-15 minutes and hadn't heard them approach.

This siren is not made by Federal Signal. This is the older model American Signal model T-135 or the Perpetrator 50.
