I recorded some rain outside my front door. This is a tuned (A440) sample which you can use to achieve a sort of soft-yet-textured synth string sound in a virtual instrument like Ableton's Sampler. I think adding a little fake vibrato to it with multiple conflicting Volume LFOs sounds pretty nice.
