Recording of my own fireplace made with a Tascam DR-40 (internal mics). I blasted up the lower freqs, kept the mid-range close to 0, then from 5-16 khz went back way up, slowly tapering down to below zero for the highest frequencies. All editing done in Audacity, compressed using Soundkonverter in Linux.
This is a good sound effect for either a bonfire or a house burning down, which is what I made it for.

Thank you! I needed a sound effect for this big furnace room and it was starting to look like I'd have to do some extensive work to some other sounds, but this worked perfectly!

@grantado - Yes, it was intentional. It was supposed to sound like a house on fire. This on top of another fire sound effect, more of a dull roar, did a good job.
