After the first impact it started poring rain and hail and more lightning and thunder followed...

Very nice indeed. Had a similar experience a few years back; stood outside back of the house watching a storm when a lovely pinkish bolt struck a neighbour's tree just 30m away. I swear I could feel a blast wave from the exploding tree. I can still see the mental image of the impact even after so many years.
I still jumped and swore, listening to this.
