Welcome to the world-famous Dutch Wadden. It is an extensive salt marsh area with mudflats and channels carved out by the sea.

Photo Description – Uithuizerwad Outer Dike Area
It is low tide and the sea is far away. Before you lie the muddy mudflats outside the dykes with pools of water from the northern Dutch coast of Groningen. It is a shore that is flooded twice a day by the tide, but now it is low tide. On the mudflats are long rows of poles that ensure that the mud that washes ashore remains in place. This is how we used to expand the land. In the distance, you can see the flat North Sea, with the German Wadden Sea island of Borkum about 10 kilometres away. The sky is blue with a few small clouds.
🌬️ It is a windy summer evening on the northern Dutch coast.
You can barely hear a ship’s engine in the distance.
The sound of the waves is far away.
Here on the salt marshes, birds are always feeding.
This place is very important for millions of migrating birds that stop here every year on their way to breeding or wintering areas.
Birds detected by Merlin Bird ID app ver 3.8.1. I cannot guarantee results.
