I turn on the recorder at eleven o'clock just too late. You only hear the last three rings of the church bell in the village of Moerdijk.
A propeller plane heads toward Rotterdam in the distance.
A heavy six-barge push barge creeps slowly against the current toward the east.
On the other side of the harbor, people are walking their dogs. You can hear them talking.
