6 years later. In the left channel it is 2017, in the right channel it is 2023. Forest (Boswachterij Dorst) in North-Brabant in The Netherlands.
Two recordings on same spot (only 20m apart), on the same date and time of the day, but 6 years apart. The wind from almost same direction and a bit stronger in 2023, and 10c colder.
Accountability and purpose the comparison of these two audio files:
It is argued by scientists that the unmistakable change of the climate must also be found in nature. That is certainly the case when you look at insects. In the past I often had to remove insects from the car window, now almost never.
The change in weather conditions is also clearly observable over time. Look at precipitation, sunshine and temperature graphs over time.
In this audio file it is 2017 on the left and 2023 on the right. Everything exactly at the same location, day of the month, and time of the day.
The question now is: do you hear the change of nature in the course of 6 years, and what can we conclude?
What to notice when comparing;
In 2017 you should hear (and see in the spectrogramm) more birds, BUT...
a] there is less wind and wind direction a bit different
b] fewer people
c] there are fewer dogs running loose
d] the high-frequency sound of the birdsong decreases sharply as they sit further away. They may be 50 meters away.
e] humidity is lower
f] March 2017 was drier and warmer
g] the sun is shining
h] less insects audible
i] at 100m from here, towards the village, the forest has thinned out in the meantime.
j] not all houses were already occupied, soo less people, cats and dog's
What questions can still be asked?
Can you draw conclusions from this data?
Do I hear the change of nature in the course of 6 years, and can I conclude that we hear the changes caused by climate change? I do not think so. But must say, I'm not a scientist.
This in contrast to some scientists who are able to determine change from their audio files. Eg the TED-talk from the famous Bernie Kraus. https://youtu.be/uTbA-mxo858
(I have tried to collect all data as accurately as possible).
