Ambience of the edge between Sand dunes and forest on a calm autumn Sunday morning in National Park ‘Loonse en Drunense Duinen’ in the Netherlands.

The last insects fly around and warm themselves in the sand of the dune. There are more birds than you might think, but the beautiful weather works wonders.

General location info; In the forest (right-hand) some far ATB bikers chat some time. The dunes (left) are, except of some running and passing people, totally empty. In front the sand-dune.
It’s a calm place. You have to run, bike, walk a while to come here. No motorcycles / cars allowed.

About the area;
National park 'Loon and Drunen dunes' is a drift-dune area. It is formed in the last ice age. Polar winds blew large amounts of sand to the area. This national park is such a high sandy ridge. It is one of the most extensive sand dune areas of Western Europe. We call it ‘our Sahara desert’. The sand area is thirty square kilometers. It was not always an open sand structure. Formerly it was a primeval forest which was felled in the fourteenth century. There were extensive moors in its place. The wind was again barrel on the sand. Villages and lands came under the sand. And so it still is like that.

Come and have a look!
