The entire mouth of the Scheldt is full of the sound of ship engines this evening. The most vessels are more than 5 km away from the beach.
Westduin strand
This is the river entrance where the ships sail from the North Sea towards Antwerp.
This beautiful humming sound actually only occurs if the wind is between zero and one Beaufort, so a wind speed of less than 1.5 km / h. Moreover, the sound must come from the mouth of the river. That is precisely the situation that is now there. The microphones are on the beach and are oriented to the south-west where the wind comes from the sea. Although the wind on the beach itself is south south-east 1bft, but a little further on the water the wind is south-south-west 0-1 bft and exactly the direction that we need to take. To determine the wind direction on the water, I used the professional version of the marine traffic app.
Due to the large distance you can hear the ship's noise moving very slowly and becoming softer or louder.
During the first 15 minutes you can hear human voices far away.
Yes, I may be a strange audiophile who loves this sound, but put on headphones and take the time to listen to this recording. Maybe you will understand what I mean.
