Curfew city, 14th night 8-11pm. Curfew start 9pm. MORE IN THIS PACK. Nothing yesterday. ![]()
This is the fourteenth day in the Netherlands that we not only have a corona lockdown, but now also with a curfew from 9 in the evening. The lockdown started in December.
General info;
To find out what the effect is on the environment, I have my microphones on my high balcony from eight o'clock. The recording will run through to 11 pm.
You may not only hear it getting quieter but also see it in the diagram.
This curfew will mean that everyone must stay inside between 9pm and 04:30am. The aim of the curfew is to slow the infection rate by preventing people from visiting each other and gathering in groups. While the curfew is in force people will not be allowed outside without a valid reason.
Today’s recording;
Today the wind will, in the beginning, come straight towards the apartment and south shallow at 2 bft. The city is more to the east, where the wind will gradually turn. At 11 PM the than easterly wind will hardly be there anymore. The noise from the western highway will remain behind the building today.
Today I like to see where the quietest moments are that I can find in the recording. I looked up the quietest background-level before curfew and during curfew. The measured values are relative (RMS) and not absolute (dBA).
The quietest moment before curfew;
after 29.06 minute for 3 sec
Measure stereo RMS: -41.5 dB
The quietest moment in curfew;
after 153.08 minute for 3 sec
Measure stereo RMS: -52.7 dB
That makes a difference of about 11 dB, and that is a lot.
Meanwhile in our country;
Tomorrow and the day after tomorrow the government will continue to hold a meeting about curfew. Will it continue after February 10? It is becoming increasingly clear that curfew is likely to continue.
In the course of tomorrow, under the influence of an easterly polar wind, we will lie with as much as 20 cm of snow. That is unusual for our country. The last time it was 1979. There is a very strong easterly wind, so I don't know yet if I can put my microphones outside.
