Ambiance of the drizzling floodplain of river Maas near the village of Hedel in the Netherlands. November afternoon 2019.
The weather forecast was that it was going to rain in an hour, so I set out for a quick sound recording. The sky is completely gray on arrival. When I sit at the water's edge for five minutes, it starts drizzling. Despite that, I stayed 25 minutes and this is the result.
With the wind from the east you not only hear the river here, but also the local traffic on the other side of the water and the trains over the steel river-bridge. If you listen carefully you will hear that the road is wet. The wind blows gently into the microphones. I deliberately did not filter it out to make the autumn audible.
On the river a fisherman is fishing with a small boat. He passes by at the end of the recording. Just like a container ship that comes from the river Dieze. The Dieze flows here into the river Maas. The bangs you hear are either from fireworks or from hunters, but they are not allowed to hunt on Sundays. A lonely touring motorbike drives over the winter dike. He probably also misjudged the weather. Suddenly a huge dog appears. He quickly leaves with a ball in his mouth. And then he takes a huge leap into the river. Fortunately he does not shake himself beside me. Oh, there is the fisherman in his boat.
High jet aircraft can be heard here and there, but it is not really a nuisance.
