It's 5.30 AM at the river Maas (La Meuse). At the other side the village Alem. It is a peninsula.
Rivier de Maas januari 2018 02
NoWaves!! Behind me a road on the river-dike with sometimes a car.

The air is filed with the usual hum of ships sailing on the river Waal a few km away. The small ferry, more a pontoon, is just on 20m, but it start at 9 am on Sundays, so a good place to be and record now. Cause of the little wind, you hear the cord on the flagpole and the wind in the tree. During the recording the wind goes from 2 to 3-4 bft.
The crows make a lot of noise sometimes, but there are many more birds like cuckoo, chaffinch, oyster-catcher, lapwing and birds I do not now by name.

Every half hour you her the church-bell of the two churches of the village Alem on 1 km.

Alem once belongs to the province Noord-Brabant, but when the river stream was changed to the East by the Dutch, Alem became a peninsula belonging to province Gelderland. Older people there know the old situation. Because the river Maas rise dangerously high in the winter, the old course of the river will be reopened as an extra gate. This lowers the water-level 20cm. Alem becomes an island than. We, low-land people are always busy keeping the feet dry ;-)
