Sheetalp91- It was generated using the application "Audacity". There was no microphone involved. Audacity is an open-source program (i.e. it's free) that contains a number of built in and plug in features for generating, editing and mixing sound. I posted these reference tones as an aid to people using freesound so they can set levels on their home computers when they audition sounds from the freesound library. As downloads one could use them for aligning recorders and mixers. It just saves a step (not a big one really as one could generate them using any good, Audacity-like program but still so time and effort would be saved).
